I mod because it's a hobby, and sharing them for free is great because if someone doesn't like it or it doesn't work for them, well, c'est la vie. Idgaf if the mods are free - it's kind of expected that you acknowledge the risk - but if you're paying for this shit would you just sit there and take it when the mod becomes unusable after a couple days?Īs a modder, I don't want to deal with angry people expecting me to fix shit. What happens when someone pays for a mod but a later game update breaks it? Often it's not even the mod's fault. Mods break all the time, hell tweaking stuff until they break the game is pretty much how most of us go about things. EA probably won't give a shit considering how long it's been going on, but other communities may likely be less sanguine about it. And while I've come to accept the "early access" gating, anything more than that is really asking for trouble. Back in the day it was usually pretty damn skeevy to do it, didn't help that it was almost always paysites using stolen content. We modders generally grew up with not monetizing this stuff because, y'know, the whole legal gray area thing. Speaking as a modder of other games, the Sims community is weird.
